Stop lying who is the best. Is Vasyl Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez or Gervonta Davis the best Lightweight fighter in the world? There is valid arguments on all sides as to why each individuals fanbase say their fighter is better.

We will answer some of the basic attributes.

Let’s start with….

STOP LYING WHO IS THE BEST STAMINA/ENDURANCE

VASYL LOMACHENKO,

Vasyl is trained by his father Anatoly Lomachenko. he received the Futch-Condon Award For the 2017 Trainer of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America and 2018 by the Ring magazine.

The 55 year old trainer is sought after to train other fighters. His unique training methods for things like hand eye coordination are legendary.

He has always (going back to Vasyl’s amatuer days) kept him in otherworldly shape. Vasyl has never tired in the ring.

RYAN GARCIA

Ryan Garcia is trained by one of the hottest trainers in the fight game Eddy Reynoso. Many consider the best pound for pound fighter Canelo Alvarez. Stop lying who is the best.

It’s always tricky gauging a young fighters stamina and endurance. Their early opponents usually end up exactly where expected, knocked out.

Which means while he is fighting and beating the guys he is supposed to beat. You do not get to see him get in enough rounds to grade his stamina correctly.

HOW MUCH GAS YOU GOT IN THE TANK?

You start to learn about a young fighters stamina when he starts getting extended in fights. His stiffer competition.

Ryans explosive power coupled with the early endings of his fights leave a slight question mark concerning his ability to carry that power into the later rounds.

Reynoso told ESPN Knockout. “In the last three fights we have fought a total of four rounds. He still needs to learn more, fight with boxers who give him more of a battle, boxers who who are actually giving him training in the ring.

We cannot say Ryan does not have the gas. But we cannot conclusively say he does. But with Eddie Reynoso training him he gets the benefit of the doubt. GRADE B

THE YOUNG FIGHTERS ARE LIONS.

GERVONTA DAVIS

Gervonta Davis is trained by Calvin Ford. Calvin has been training Davis since amatuer headgear days.

Gervonta is a certified puncher with dynamite in both hands. He is one of the rare breed of fighters that can starch an opponent with one blow.

But through history we see that when you have these type of fighters. As special as they are. They seem to lack a little in the stamina department.

You can go down the list of great punchers from Foreman to Shavers etc.

In 1986 a guy named Iron Mike was demolishing guys in one or two rounds.

But it was discovered in the Bonecrusher Smith fight that if you hold excessively, Tyson had a tendency to get frustrated. And you could possibly extend him into the middle rounds where it was less danger.

I’m sure that’s not the case with Gervonta because we have seen his incredible power on display late in fights on multiple occasions.

Calvin Ford is a superb trainer. And lets not forget that Davis has the most well conditioned boxer ever in his corne Floyd Mayweather. Stop lying who is the best?

With all that said. Davis was definitely frustrated in the Sanchez fight due to Sanchez repeatedly headbutting. And in the Avila fight he took a couple of rounds off.

But remember, All Grandma Valiant wants to know is the final results. Gervonta devastatingly, convincingly, blasted both these guys to dreamland. GRADE B

TEOFIMO LOPEZ

Teofimo Lopez was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Honduran immigrants. Boxing seemed natural to him from a young age. His father Teofimo Lopez Sr., started training him at the age of 6.

Teofimo is a very slippery fighter that can also crack a bit. His work rate is above average. His exudes tons of confidence, as his challenge to Lomachenko testifies to.

When he says he will beat Loma, you believe him because you know he is not selling whoof tickets. He believes what he is saying. Stop lying who is the best?

With that said, the Nakatani fight showed he tends to tire late. He got pushed back by the taller Nakatani.

But you cannot indict a fighter on one performance. His showing in the Commey championship fight was sheer brilliance. GRADE C+

Some say being in great shape gives you a better chin. Or at least gives the fighter a far better ability to recuperate from a damaging punch.

Some say the older you get, the weaker your chin gets. But I never seen any glass in George Foreman‘s chin. I’ve never seen Bernard Hopkins chin fail. (Dont even bring up the fallout the ring fiasco).

Then there are fighters like Felix Trinidad who would seem to go down every fight. Only to get up and bomb his opponent out.

Anyone if hit in the right place can and will be hurt. Even the great Marvin Hagler was stunned by the cannon that Thomas Hearns told everybody was a right hand.

WHEN A MAN GOES INTO THE RING, HE’S GOING TO WAR.

STOP LYING WHO IS THE BEST (CHIN)-ABILITY TO TAKE A PUNCH AND RECOVER

VASYL LOMACHENKO

We all know Vasyl has been in 397 amatuer boxing matches and loss only 1. Two gold medals. That’s an awful lot of punches to take.

In all his pro fights we have never seen him hurt. Yes he was knocked down by Linares but quickly rose, and showed no ill effects the remainder of the round. Besides he stopped Linares late.

With that said. Linares is not Gervonta Davis. GRADE C+

RYAN GARCIA

School is out on Ryan Garcia concerning his chin. We have never seen him stunned in the ring because he has not faced the competition that would touch him yet.

This reminds me of (Not fight style, just overall feel) the pre-Edwin Rosario-Hector Camacho.

HECTOR-CAMACHO in indian clothes
HECTOR-CAMACHO

As great as Hector was, and he WAS great. It seemed after Rosario hurt him in their Madison Square Garden fight, He was never as aggressive after that.

It’s crazy because Camacho fought all the killers from two generations and nobody ever stopped him. His chin was A+.

Ryan doesn’t look strong enough to keeps the dogs off him right now in my opinion.

I wait in anticipation to see how Garcia reacts when someone stuns him of even puts him on the canvas. But I will not punish him for the unknown. GRADE B

GERVONTA DAVIS

They call Gervonta the TANK. He moves forward putting pressure on his opponent like a, well….uhh..TANK. I’ve seen enough of him against guys like Gamboa, Pedraza, and Sanchez to know there is no problem in that department. GRADE A+

FIGHTERS
Menacing Mike Tyson

TEOFIMO LOPEZ

Being a little winded at the end of a fight has nothing to do with your chin. Looking at some of Teofimo’s early fights leave me with questions. GRADE B+

It’s nothing like a dramatic come from behind one punch knockout. Talk about walk-off home runs all you like.

And you can talk about buzzer beating basketball game winning shots. You can talk about a horse race decided by inches.

Swim race, car race, last second Hail-Mary bomb pass scoring a touchdown to win a football game.

I don’t care it’s NOTHING as thrilling as a One-Punch KO!

EXPLOSIVE PUNCHING POWER

VASYL LOMACHENKO

Vasyl Lomachenko delivers punches from the most unheard of angles. His foot placement and peripheral vision is super-human.

He carries plenty of pop on his punches. But It’s an accumulative effect that does the damage.

Ray Leonard could punch for sure. He walked a prime Thomas Hearns down. But his effectiveness was due to accumulation.

Sure you can bring up Davey Green, and others, but Andy Price and Thomas Hearns tells you what type of puncher Leonard really was.

Lomachenko is in that category. GRADE B

RYAN GARCIA

Impressive knockout percentage. Thrilling one punch knockouts. But quality of opposition drains momentum. GRADE C-

GERVONTA DAVIS

One punch knockouts against World-Class competition. GRADE A+

TEOFIMO LOPEZ

Thrilling KO of Commey convinced me. GRADE A-
