NEW-SCHOOL TRAINERS VS OLD-SCHOOL TRAINERS. WHO IS BETTER?

New-school trainers vs Old-school trainers. An old-school trainer is always a better choice over a new-school trainer. You ask Punchingbagskunk.com resident boxing expert Greg Townes why? Old-school trainers have experience as well as knowledge. New-school trainers only have knowledge.

New-school trainers might be able to teach you to throw a punch in battle…maybe! But they are not qualified to prepare you for the mental battle all fighters go through prior to fights. They can teach you how to knock someone down. But they cant teach you how to get up from a knockdown.

They are familiar with teaching the X’s and O’s, but not the intangibles concerning boxing. Things like mental preparation. Pre-fight fear and even overconfidence. New-school trainers can build up muscles but cant build confidence. They can tell you where to throw a hook, but cant mentally prepare you to step into the danger zone to land the hook on anything but the heavy bag.

Punchingbagskunk resident boxing expert Greg Townes speaks on this topic at length in the article HOW TO BECOME A GREAT FIGHTER.

boxer‘s training depends largely on the point in their career at which he or she is situated. If the boxer is just a beginner, a minimal training routine might consist of learning how to hit a heavy bag, a speed bag, or a double end bag (a small bag with a cord on top and bottom connecting it to the floor and ceiling) as well as doing shadowboxing in front of a mirror, skipping ropecalisthenics and jogging every day, as well as an occasional practice bout inside the ring (sparring). Most beginning boxers will spend most of their early careers conditioning and establishing the fundamentals. For the amateur or professional boxer preparing for a competition or bout, however, training is much more stringent. Boxing is widely considered one of the most physically demanding sports in the world.

WHAT IS BOXING REALLY ABOUT, MIND OR BODY?

Goofy stick play and patty cake pad work do nothing to prepare a fighter for real combat. And new-school trainers love to work the pads with people they are training. Boxing is about confidence not physical strength. You build a fighters confidence so when they are ready to take that ring walk and step into the boxing ring, they are fighting machines. They will believe they are the greatest. And as a man thinketh……you know the rest.

WHO IS MIKE TYSON? THE OLD-SCHOOL FIGHTER TRAINED BY A OLD-SCHOOL TRAINER.

Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. Nicknamed “Iron Mike”[3] and “Kid Dynamite” in his early career, and later known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet”,[4] Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.[5] He reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them in the first round.

WHAT BELTS DID MIKE TYSON WIN

Claiming his first belt at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old, Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title.[6] He was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. The following year, Tyson became the lineal champion when he knocked out Michael Spinks in 91 seconds of the first round.[7] In 1990, Tyson was knocked out by underdog Buster Douglas[8] in one of the biggest upsets in history.

Punch heavy bag until your hands bleed. That’s good.

Greg from Punchingbagskunk.com says, SHUT UP and stop crying about skinned knuckle’s. This is fighting so FIGHT!

It dispels the age old myth of overly protecting your hands during heavy bag punching. Punchingbagskunk.com is not telling people to not use precautions to protect from injury.

But skin burns and structural damage are two different things. Protecting your hands from bone damage from the force your knuckle’s feel from impact while hitting punching bag is a valid concern.

Keep in mind the gloves do a good job of protecting your hands. The same way a sore needs to not be covered to heal faster. The more times you scrape the surface skin off from hitting the bag, causes it to get tougher.

Skin has to be tougher.

Greg from Punchingbagskunk.com explains that skinned knuckle’s is a rite of passage in the fight game. If your not willing to endure scraped up knuckles. Then boxing is not the sport for you.

Greg is a retired professional prizefighter with over 40 years of experience. And when he speaks on the subject. You can best believe he is speaking from experience from his years in the sport of boxing.

Punch (combat)

punch is a striking blow with the fist.

It is used in most martial arts and combat sports, most notably boxing, where it is the only type of offensive technique allowed. In sports, hand wraps or other padding such as gloves may be used to protect athletes and practitioners from injuring themselves.[1][2] The use of punches varies between different martial arts and combat sports. Styles such as boxing, Suntukan or Russian fist fighting use punches alone, while others such as KickboxingMuay ThaiLethwei or karate may use both punches and kicks. Others such as wrestling (excluding professional wrestling) and judo (punches and other striking techniques, atemi, are present in judo kata, but are forbidden in competitions) do not use punches at all. There are many types of punches and as a result, different styles encompass varying types of punching techniques.

If you put Vaseline and lotion on your hands all the time. The skin on your knuckle’s will take longer to toughen up sufficiently to resist the tearing from the force of hitting the bag.

You NEED to rip that skin over and over until it forms a tougher coat of skin on the area that makes contact with the bag. The hand-wraps stabilize your hand protecting the bones.

The gloves reduce some of the force from impact of the punch. But the tiny movement of the hand-wraps on the skin is what scrapes the skin off.

Punching heavy bag until your hands bleed, that’s good.

The same way a broken bone heals stronger than before the break. The skin reacts the same way. Every time you skin your knuckles, it takes more force to skin it again.

And eventually it begins to withstand the force all together.

WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?

Queer street, what does it mean in boxing? Boxing is one of the most Macho sports, if not the MOST macho sport.

Queer street what does it mean in boxing
Explosive punching professional fighter Ryan Garcia

Queer Street what does it mean in boxing. Queer is a blanketed term for gender minorities who are not heterosexual.

A term denoting and or relating to a sexual or gender identity, that does not line up with established ideas of sexuality and gender, could very well be construed as disrespectful or even offensive to a fighter.

Saying a fighter was on queer street refers to a short term situation. The reality is there are other terms and sayings in the noble art of pugilism that sting much more. They would be an affliction. Or opposed to a temporary situation.

Fighters who found themselves temporarily on queer street.

To say a fighter has no heart would be an affliction. And it is a cardinal sin to have that term associated with you if you are a prizefighter. Punchingbagskunk.com article,

“FIGHTER HAS NO HEART. 4 WAYS TO TELL; speaks on this very topic. If you say a fighter cannot punch, or has no chin. These are other derogatory slanders that are thrown around. But the number one insult to any prizefighter, is to call them a coward.

Queer street what does it mean in boxing

To see a man beaten, not by a better opponent but by himself is a tragedy.

Cus D’Amato

It is really redundant to call a person who climbs ring stairs to swap punches with an opponent a coward. The fact that individuals sacrifice during training.

Getting in a boxing ring to essentially put their life on the line in my estimation are absolutely nowhere close to being in the same universe as a coward.

WHILE SUSTAINING NO DAMAGE

Some fighters never paid a visit to queer street. Other fighters came back from queer street. Plenty fighters never recovered from queer street.

Queer street is a synonym for stinger, bell rung, La La land, etc. Queer street what does it mean in boxing?

When you get punched in the head your brain crashes against your skull. Not enough to render you unconscious, but enough to put you in that dreamlike state where your not fully conscious, yet not unconscious.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to navigationJump to search“Punch drunk” redirects here. For other uses, see Punch drunk (disambiguation).

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease linked to repeated blows to the head. The encephalopathy symptoms can include behavioral problems, mood problems, and problems with thinking.[1][2] The disease often gets worse over time and can result in dementia.[2] It is unclear if the risk of suicide is altered.[1]

Most documented cases have occurred in athletes involved in striking-based combat sports, such as boxingkickboxingmixed martial arts, and Muay Thai—hence its original name dementia pugilistica (Latin for “fistfighter’s dementia“)—and contact sports such as American footballAustralian rules footballprofessional wrestlingice hockeyrugby, and association football (soccer),[1][4] but also in semi-contact sports such as baseball and basketball.

QUEER STREET, WHATS OTHER MEANINGS?

Other risk factors include being in the military, prior domestic violence, and repeated banging of the head.[1] The exact amount of trauma required for the condition to occur is unknown, and as of 2021 definitive diagnosis can only occur at autopsy.[1] The disease is classified as a tauopathy.[1]

There is no specific treatment for the disease.[3] Rates of CTE have been found to be about 30% among those with a history of multiple head injuries;[1] however, population rates are unclear.[2] Research in brain damage as a result of repeated head injuries began in the 1920s, at which time the condition was known as dementia pugilistica or “fistfighter’s dementia”, “boxer’s madness”, or “punch drunk syndrome”.[1][3] It has been proposed that the rules of some sports be changed as a means of prevention.[1]
