HOW CAN BOXING BE RESTORED TO RESPECTABILITY?

Fix pro boxing. What is the remedy to fix professional boxing? The answer is simple. Fighters should get a frequent fighter bonus tacked on their purse. It should be a enormous bonus check. This way fighters would have incentive to fight more often, instead of once a year. In addition professional fighters should be required to have a minimum of six professional sanctioned bouts a year. If that fight quota is not met. Then the penalty for not reaching the fight requirement should be enormous fines and penalties. These two stipulations will singlehandedly restore professional boxing to its once glorified lead of all combat sports.

WHY A MANDATORY SIX FIGHT RULE WILL FIX BOXING.

Any fighter that’s living a fighters life in shape should be able to get in fighting shape in 2 months. So fighters should be required to fight 6 times a year or be penalized/taxed a enormous fee for not making the 6 fight minimum. Again, this would give incentive to fighters, promoters, managers and even trainers to get these fighters in the ring, as well as fix pro boxing. This would also eventually lead to fighters fighting each other instead of sitting on their belts. Too many champions in the same weight class claiming to be the best.

FIX PRO BOXING, HOW TODAYS FIGHT FANS ARE CHEATED.

All the bickering about who’s the best will cease because we will KNOW who the best is after they fight. The real winner in this will be the boxing fans. As it is now, the fans have to endure rumors of fights CONSTANTLY. But almost never does the fight actually materialize. And when it does its usually once a year regardless of weight class. Fighters in the 50’s & 60’s fought multiple times a year.70’s & 80’s also seen fighters and champions fighting frequently. Today’s champions fight on average once a year. Some even every 2 years.

WHY BOXING DOES NOT NEED ANYMORE PODCASTERS OR CONTENT CREATORS TO FIX PRO BOXING.

What the fluck happened? It’s like social media has turned the boxing game into TALKING about fights instead of actually FIGHTING fights. You know why? Because the majority of boxing fans today are all talk and no action. That’s why you got content creators and Podcasters talking, talking, talking. Talking strategies. Discussing potential match-ups. Talking possibilities. Talking about everything except results. You can’t talk results if there is no FIGHT.

WHAT IS BOXINGS YAPPING PHENOMENON?

You see most these wannabe boxing experts never fought. Would never throw a punch at nothing. As a matter a fact they talk about stuff they are petrified to do in real life. This type of culture in boxing leads to the yapping phenomenon. This puts the value on yapping about fighting, instead of actually fighting. You see, real men value results. The only reason new school jackasses say things like, “I ENJOY THE ARTISTRY AND SKILL “is because they know they would never have the balls to get in a ring and go toe to toe with anybody. So they say artistry bull$h!t is good. And firefights are bad. And if you say firefights are what makes legendary fights. They answer with disrespectful comments about Muhammad Ali. Or they talk about making your money and getting out the game healthy. Healthy is cool, but tell me a legendary fight in the last 5 or 10 years. EXACTLY!!

HOW TO SPOT THE CROOKS IN PROFESSIONAL BOXING?

We are treated to slap-boxing, tap tap your it, bull$h!t fights. And have to pay MORE money every time. No, the answer is mandatory yearly fights across all weight classes. And mandatory penalties and fines if requirements are not met. You don’t need every boxing commission in the world on board to make this happen. Each individual commission and promoters could easily make this stipulation a staple in every promotional contract. And those that DONT. Well they would easily be identified as the element that’s wrong with boxing.

Casual boxing fans. Jackass new school boxing fans always saying boxers these days don’t want to end up later in life punch drunk like old-school fighters. But it seems like rappers life expectancy these days is 20 years old. Nobody ever says nothing about that. Would you rather have to ask your wife where you put your keys at 70 year old after living a noble and respected life in the ring. Or would you rather sing songs of murder, drug use and fornication then at age 19 be DEAD!!

WHY IS BOXING LOSING POPULARITY? ARE CASUAL BOXING FANS THE PROBLEM?

All you young idiots not noticing that are you? So busy calling old-school boxers stupid. And you always talking about old-school boxers are broke, no money. You always talk that crap when I talk about our champions having HONOR. Even if you have some money what good is it doing you if your DEAD!! Yes old school fighters was honorable enough to put their lives on the line to achieve legendary status, while giving the fans what they paid for….a FIGHT. Now new-school boxers slap-box for 12 rounds robbing the public and then demand millions of dollars.

WHAT DO MOST CASUAL BOXING FANS NOT APPRECIATE ABOUT BOXING

Some you punks even try to soil the great Muhammad Ali’s name. Ali sat with Kings you young idiots. All your heroes today do is chase each other’s thots, go to jail for domestics and hang in strip clubs. Just because one of our Superman champions from back in the day takes a little longer to walk, or speaks a little slower. Doesn’t diminish the ring of honor that hangs around his neck. Your rap idiots and their wh0re$ value street credibility. There is no honor in that and at 19 years old they end up DEAD! Ask yourself. Who is REALLY stupid?

WHY DO BOXERS GET PUNCHDRUNK?

Some old school boxers are dealing with some health issues. Some of the issues they deal with are boxing related and some are not. Years of fighting can sometimes take its toll on a fighter physically. But it’s what we old-school fighters understood from the beginning.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF STAREDOWNS

Pre-fight staredown. Some say stare downs mean little. I disagree. The winner of a stare down, if by big margin some of the time has the initial edge in the fight, and some of the time usually ends up winning. Intimidation is a silent weapon in boxing. Some guys have it, other guys have issues dealing with it.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOXING CHAMPION PRE-FIGHT STAREDOWN

And I guess, there are different ways to play the psychological game.
I liked how the old version of George Foreman handled it.
When his opponent went for a stare down, he ignored it, and looked very relaxed and confident.
It must have been frustrating to his foe.

What also pops up in mind is Larry Holmes’s “Let’s have a good fight” to Gerry Cooney after the
referee’s instructions. Another example of self-confidence addressed to the opponent. Benítez’ stare downs were great. Benitez was the epitome of cool and his stare down with Hearn’s is one of my all time favorites Thomas Hearn’s had one of the most frightening death stares I’ve ever seen,. Benitez has the aura of a boxing master, he exudes a confidence like “Who is this crude brute daring to challenge me?”

WHAT BOXING CHAMPIONS HAD THE MOST MENACING, INTIMIDATING AND FRIGHTINING STAREDOWNS?

Wilfred Benitez vs Maurice Hope, in 1981. Foreman vs Lyle, that one was nose-to-nose. Leonard vs Benitez is pretty good too. Toney vs McCallum 1 stare down was awesome and Pavlik vs Taylor 1 was a really good one. Foreman laid a good stare down on Frazier before their 1st fight as well. The two of them trading glares while Joe looks up at George is one of the classic boxing photos. Duran vs Barkley had a pretty good one to. Trinidad vs Hopkins as well as Tito vs. Vargas and Hagler vs Hearns, they both had that killer look. Aaron Pryor vs. Alexis Arguello 1 where Pryor stands in the middle of the ring pointing at Arguello with a chilling look was legendary. Vitali Klitschko, and Sonny Liston used the stare down to their advantage by deflating a guys ego before battle.

WHY MUHAMMAD ALI AND JOE FRAZIER PRE-FIGHT STAREDOWN WAS LEGENDARY.

For one that was a bit different, I liked Ali and Joe’s face off. Them talking it up before Manila was like, “yeah, let’s do this one more time”. This included the smack. Both guys were smiling as it seemed all part of the show before getting down to the real business. And boy, did they give the fans what they paid for.

Imagine if Joe and Ali didn’t talk to each other during instructions. Everybody would’ve thought “What’s up with the them? Maybe this fight will suck!” LOL. We all know better now.

MONEY RUINED BOXING AND NOW FIGHTERS HAVE NO KILLER INSTINCT.

Money ruined boxing. Tank Davis beats Shakur by knockout because Shakur is soft at the core. My eye test says so. I can look at a fighter and see if there is killer instinct, you know why? Because I had killer instinct when I was fighting. And I know what it looks like. Besides Tank Davis already smashed him in the gym, I will add allegedly. Devin Haney would barely survive to lose a unanimous decision. You know why? Because of the same thing, no killer in him.

FLOYD MAYWEATHERS LAST REAL FIGHT WAS AGAINST OSCAR DE’LAHOYA. THATS ANOTHER REASON MONEY RUINED BOXING.

There are some fighters that have killer instinct today like Vergil Ortiz, Terrence Crawford to name two more. But not many. And I got to add this. Floyd Mayweather had plenty killer in him coming up. But believe it or not, Oscar DeLaHoya took the killer out of Floyd. He hasn’t been a killer since their fight the same way Hector Camacho didn’t wanna kill anymore after Edwin Rosario hurt him.(Sorry guy’s, it’s the truth).

FIGHTERS TODAY ARE HANGING AT STRIP CLUBS AND POPPING BOTTLES.

These kids today are good don’t get me wrong. They are technically sound and all that. But always remember what Cus D’Amato liked to say. Boxing is 80% mental, only 20% physical. Money has softened the game of boxing. For whatever reason getting rich is the ONLY goal now. Things like honor, belt pride and simply being known as the best means nothing now. All that matters today is the dollar. I’m lying??Ok, fighters today always talking about they got to take care of their family, like fighters of the past didn’t love their families. And half these monkeys really busy hanging at strip clubs and popping bottles. They don’t give a rats a$$ about their families.

HAGLER, LEONARD, DURAN, HEARNS AND BENITEZ ALL HAD KILLER INSTINCT.

Fighters today are always saying things like “I wanna retire with all my mental facilities. Like fighters of yesterday wanted to be punch-drunk and blind. No, all that bullshit is a smokescreen for COWARDICE. They just scared to engage. These new-school boys would rather slap-box safely than do the honorable thing which is put their life on the line to give the fans what they want….A FIGHT!!!They bring up current boxing tragedies to justify their point like no fighters of the past suffered any tragedies. Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, Wilfred Benitez all had two things in common. The desire to be the best. And KILLER instinct.

WHATS MORE IMPORTANT IN BOXING, KNOWLEDGE OR WISDOM?

TEACHING THE JAB PUNCH IN BOXING

Teaching the jab punch from boxing expert Greg Townes. He says throw the jab straight. Always punch through your target. Always bring your hand back to your face height without dropping it on the way back.

Never lift your elbows up during punching. That is what trainers in boxing circles call chicken winging it. You can get your ribs broke exposing them to danger like that.

Always tuck your chin into your shoulder. Which ever hand you throw, that’s what shoulder you tuck your chin to. Be sure to snap your jab like a whip on extension. The more pop/snap you put on your punch, the more damage your punch does. Snapping the jab can also cause cuts to opponents that are prone to cuts or have scar tissue already.

The energy is at the extension of the punch. Always turn your left fist clockwise while throwing the jab punch. If your southpaw fighter, turn your fist counter-clockwise. This can open up cuts on your opponent as well as adding extra pop on the punch.

HOW TO THROW A JAB TO THE BODY

If shooting a jab to the opponents midsection, always remember to bend at the knees, not the waist. Bending at the waist destroys balance and leaves you vulnerable to counter punches. Bending at the waist while throwing jab ignores all the advantages your legs can provide.

Sugar Ray Leonard was good at baiting opponents with a flicking, harmless jab to the body. He would do this to set traps. After throwing the jab to the body, he would oftentimes follow-up with a blistering right hand counter.

A jab is a type of punch used in the martial arts. Several variations of the jab exist, but every jab shares these characteristics: while in a fighting stance, the lead fist is thrown straight ahead and the arm is fully extended from the side of the torso. This process also involves a quick turn of the torso. It is an overhand punch; at the moment of impact, the pronated fist is generally held in a horizontal orientation with the palm facing the ground.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY AND BEST THROWERS

The word jab was first used in 1825, to mean “to thrust with a point.” The term is a Scottish variant of the word job, which means “to strike, pierce, thrust. Historians consider some of the best jabbers in history to be Sonny Liston, Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, Hector Camacho, and Sugar Ray Leonard. Recent master jabbers include Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko, both coached by the same trainer and able to develop significant power into their jabs. Holmes’ jab has often been called “the best among Heavyweights”,Ali’s jab was famous for its speed^[4] and Liston’s for its power. Mike Tyson used a rare version of a slip jab, that allowed him to jab effectively against taller opponents with longer reach.

NEW-SCHOOL TRAINERS VS OLD-SCHOOL TRAINERS. WHO IS BETTER?

New-school trainers vs Old-school trainers. An old-school trainer is always a better choice over a new-school trainer. You ask Punchingbagskunk.com resident boxing expert Greg Townes why? Old-school trainers have experience as well as knowledge. New-school trainers only have knowledge.

New-school trainers might be able to teach you to throw a punch in battle…maybe! But they are not qualified to prepare you for the mental battle all fighters go through prior to fights. They can teach you how to knock someone down. But they cant teach you how to get up from a knockdown.

They are familiar with teaching the X’s and O’s, but not the intangibles concerning boxing. Things like mental preparation. Pre-fight fear and even overconfidence. New-school trainers can build up muscles but cant build confidence. They can tell you where to throw a hook, but cant mentally prepare you to step into the danger zone to land the hook on anything but the heavy bag.

If the boxer is just a beginner, a minimal training routine might consist of learning how to hit a heavy bag, a speed bag, or a double end bag (a small bag with a cord on top and bottom connecting it to the floor and ceiling) as well as doing shadowboxing in front of a mirror, skipping rope, calisthenics and jogging every day, as well as an occasional practice bout inside the ring (sparring).
